The 11th annual Student Digital Photo Contest sponsored by the Alfred C. O’Connell Library culminated with a recognition ceremony held virtually on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. The talented entries were carefully judged by a panel of GCC faculty and staff: Gary Glaser, Jessica Hibbard, Lina LaMattina, Nicki Lerczak, and Maureen Spindler. Contest judging criteria consisted of Composition, Creativity/Originality, Technical Attributes and Emotional Appeal. Each judge was provided with the rubric and winners were selected in the following categories: First Place, Ian Terry, Second Place, Luis Diaz, Third Place, Mason Seiler, and three Honorable Mentions: Lucas Birt, William Bookmiller and Allison Church. Students came from a variety of backgrounds and majors including Digital Arts and the ACE program. Prizes were mailed to the winners following the ceremony. Contest Coordinator and Systems and Electronic Services Librarian, Liz Simmons thanked all of the students who entered and said, “There were some really creative and unique entries this year.” She also went on to thank the Office of Student Engagement and Inclusion for their sponsorship and support of the contest.
The contest and the awards event were publicized throughout the college community as well as the library and via social media. The winners join students from past contests on the library’s Photo Contest webpage which stays active year-round. This annual program provides an opportunity for students to contribute to their community, hone their communication skills and express their creativity.
