On March 12, journalist Aden J. Chua of the GCC Student Newspaper interviewed Campus One80 President, Dr. Carrie Starr, this time about Campus One80’s big prom event coming up in April.
CHUA: Hello Carrie. What is the name of your prom, and what exactly is it about?
STARR: The name of our prom is “Kicks and Ties,” and that is our theme, which means people can dress up, but also wear their favorite sneakers for the event. That’s the “kicks” part of “Kicks and Ties”; the “ties” means wearing something dressy but enjoying being comfy in your sneakers. It’s about college students from across the Rochester area from different campuses coming together, along with faculty, staff, family, and community members. All enjoying a night of fun together.
CHUA: What are some of the fun details about the prom?
STARR: Our DJ is Mike McGuiness, who will make the event very fun and enjoyable. We will also be enjoying Campus One80 trivia in groups. There will be charcuterie from Melo Coffee and Kitchen in the city of Rochester, and non-alcoholic drinks from AltBar in the city of Rochester. There will also be a silent auction where people can bid on a variety of prizes and a photo booth to take pictures with their friends.
CHUA: Who else is involved with the event?
STARR: We have several campuses participating in this event in addition to Genesee Community College. We also have folks coming from MCC, Roberts Wesleyan, SUNY Brockport, and RIT.
CHUA: If you happen to need volunteers, what positions would be available?
STARR: We do need volunteer help with the serving of food and drinks and helping out at the silent auction.
CHUA: What is the ticket cost and dress code for people who attend?
STARR: So, the ticket cost is $100 because this is a fundraiser for the ministry/organization. And the dress code is dressy, so semi-formal to formal, but with your sneakers. Dress pants, button-down shirt. If you want to wear a suit jacket, you can; you don’t have to. If you want to wear a tie, you can; you don’t have to. If girls want to wear a fancy dress, they can. If they’d rather wear pants and a shirt, they can. Everyone gets to decide what dressy is!
CHUA: Are there any other conditions, besides the ticket cost and dress code?
STARR: People need to register online to attend, at least one week before the event. So, April 18th is the deadline to register: (www.campusone80.com/adultprom) It is open to students, families, community members, etc. It is an open event to the community.
CHUA: Where and when will the event take place?
STARR: The event is at the Golisano Institute for Business and Entrepreneurship. That is on Sawgrass Road in Rochester, NY, and it takes place on Saturday, April 26 from 7:00pm-10:00pm. Parking is included and free.
CHUA: How big is this event?
STARR: We anticipate about 150 people attending.
CHUA: Do you have any other additional facts and details about the event?
STARR: We encourage students, faculty, and staff to attend and invite their friends and family members. If people are involved in a church and want to invite their church leaders or community members, this is a wonderful opportunity for people to learn about what Campus One80 is all about.
